WMMR Interview: A Walk to Stamp Out Parkinson’s
Tomorrow, our community will come together once again for The Walk to Stamp Out Parkinson’s, an annual event hosted by The Parkinson Council that celebrates hope, strength, community, and connection. As both a speech-language pathologist and a caregiver, this Walk holds a deeply personal meaning for me. It’s not just about raising funds…it’s about bringing community together, awareness, and support.
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to join Wendy Lewis, CEO from The Parkinson Council and Markus Goldman on WMMR’s Public Affairs to talk about the Walk and the work being done right here in our region. During the interview, we discussed the local impact of The Parkinson Council, how every dollar raised stays in our community to fund critical research, therapy programs, and caregiver support across the Greater Philadelphia area.
As I shared on air, the journey with Parkinson’s disease is about so much more than movement. It’s about communication, cognition, and swallowing — the invisible challenges aka the nonmotor symptoms, that often go unnoticed but deeply affect daily life. As an SLP, I’ve seen firsthand how empowering someone to speak with confidence, think with clarity, and eat safely can restore dignity and independence. That’s why this walk matters so much.
For me, The Walk to Stamp Out Parkinson’s isn’t just an event , it’s a reminder that none of us walk alone. Families, friends, clinicians, and community members all come together with one mission: to improve quality of life for people living with Parkinson’s. I’ll be walking with Team Charlie’s Angels in honor of my dad, who taught me the true meaning of strength, humor, and grace throughout his Parkinson’s journey.
If you’ve ever wondered how to get involved, there’s still time to join us. You can register to walk, volunteer, or donate directly through The Parkinson Council’s website. Whether you walk in person or support from afar, every step…and every dollar… makes a difference.
Tomorrow’s walk is a celebration of community, courage, and progress. It’s a day filled with music, smiles, and stories that remind us of why we fight - for better care, more understanding, and a cure.
So lace up your shoes, grab your friends (furry included), and join us in A Walk to Stamp out Parkinson’s! Together, we can make a difference.
